Company History
Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the home of the University of Virginia, the first Greenberry’s Coffee and Tea Co. store opened in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1992. We opened with the intent of serving the finest selection of specialty coffees and teas and superior fresh-baked pastries in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Today we serve over 30 specialty coffees and hand-crafted blends and 18 varieties of loose leaf tea. We offer a wide range of pastries and desserts prepared daily in our stores as well as coffee and tea merchandise.
Mad About Plaid
We proudly chose the name "Greenberry’s" and the signature blue and green tartan plaid in honor of a Scotch-Irish ancestor whose pride in a job well done and belief in fair value were core ideals that we expect our company to uphold. You can find the plaid on our cups, bags, logos and in our décor; for us it serves as a reminder of the principles we value most.
Company Values
There are a few key values that we have always striven to maintain and we feel that it is this ideology that sets our company apart from so many other competing businesses:
- To create a warm, friendly environment for our customers with customer service as the primary focus
- To serve only the highest quality products available on the market
- To be a safe, exciting and interesting place to work and to hire a qualified and diverse staff to suit our diverse clientele
- To never put the growth of company ahead of our attention to the everyday details and the needs of our loyal customers
Greenberry’s Coffee Roasters
Before the first store ever opened, Greenberry’s began as a wholesale coffee bean retailer in 1992. We understood that in order to ensure the integrity and quality of the coffee we sell that we needed to roast our own product. We've now been in the roasting business for 13 years. We provide coffee to all of our locations as well as several shops and small restaurants. Every batch of coffee we sell is roasted by hand and shipped fresh on a daily and weekly basis. Our Master Coffee Roasters view roasting as an art, not a job, and the difference is evident in every cup we sell.
